GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The position of COGNOS Consultant is for an IT professional that has 5+ years experience in the design, development and implementation of reports with Cognos business intelligence tools; particularly with Report Net 1.1 or later.  The applicant should also have an in-depth knowledge of relational data bases such as Oracle 9i, OLAP and data access/front-end tools such as Oracle (PL‑SQL), SQL, Excel VBA.

The position will interact with the business users to understand the needs for analytical applications and reports, and define detailed solutions to developing/maintaining the front-end applications.  Because business reporting and data analysis requires a general understanding of business systems, the applicant will need to have good familiarity with a number of key business applications:

• Manufacturing Systems
• Financial Systems

As part of the specification and documentation process, the applicant will need excellent written and verbal skills and should be able to write documentation for both business users and technical IT use.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The position will be responsible for the setup and administration of Cognos Report Net 1.1 or later. Propose an overall Cognos Architecture strategy including development standards, setting common utilities, setting Reporting standards and security standards.
• The consultant will be responsible for architecting the BI platform as well as developing a wide variety of analytical reports using Cognos business intelligence tools (Series 7: ReportNet, Framework Manager; Series 8: Report Studio, Analysis Studio, Query Studio, Metric Studio, Data Manager).
• Development of the metadata layer in Framework Manager in conjunction with the logical and physical data models.
• This position will provide technical and analytical support to IT group for various departments within the organization.
• Primary areas of focus will include: writing ad hoc reports in new environment; developing new custom reports using Cognos.
• Install and maintain front-end and reporting tools.
• Supporting users in problem resolution
• Upgrading products and applying patches as necessary
• Maintaining and modifying reports/queries as necessary
• Troubleshooting operational/data issues
• Managing and supporting the technical documentation
• Testing changes/modification
• Providing assistance to other technical areas as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5+ years Hands-on experience with using Cognos tool suite components: ReportNet, Framework Manager, on Windows as both a developer and administrator - MUST
• Designing and developing Cognos reports using ReportNet – MUST
• Cognos implementation experience: installing, configuring, and maintaining COGNOS server environments for Development, Test and Production. - MUST
• Experience with Cognos Portal Integration – MUST
• Experience in installing, configuring, governing, trouble shooting and tuning Cognos is a MUST.
• Experience in setting up Cognos ReportNet Security - MUST
• Knowledge of Web application server architectures and security systems administration – MUST
• Experience with ReportNet Software Development Kit (SDK) to customize reports - PLUS.
• Ability to work with business users on requirements, develop appropriate specifications and build reporting objects - MUST
• Good understanding of relational structures, dimensional data modeling, Structured Query Language (SQL) skills, Data Warehouse and reporting techniques. – MUST
• 5+ years experience using SQL with a relational DBMS such as Oracle or MS SQL Server.
• In depth experience with client server applications and architectures – MUST
• Experience working with the full life cycle development process, which includes analysis, design, construction, and testing - MUST
• Proficiency with the Windows NT Server a MUST and UNIX (Sun Solaris) operating systems a PLUS
• Experience in a regulated environment (such as medical device or pharmaceutical; i.e. FDA and/or CFR work) a - PLUS
• Excellent Written and Verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with senior business and technical IT management – MUST
• Strong Analytical and problem solving abilities – MUST
• Bachelor’s Degree.  (Computer Science preferred) - PREFERRED
